It is interesting there are rumours the Bastarnae have been not Germanic
but they have been Celts.
Jordanes for instance doesn't count them as Germanic tribes and he
hardly speak about them. So far I remember he call them "Peucines" like
the island where they inhabited last. I am not sure what Dio Cassius
says but when he speak about Dacians and Suebi, he mentions exactly that
the Suebi are Germanic and the Dacians should be some "Scythians". Dio
speaks about Yaziges and Roxolanes showing they should be related to
each other. But if these are Iranians ( are they?) and related to some
other Sarmatic tribes, the Dacians are not considered "Sarmatic" or
"Iranians" but as all of these mentioned here, they should be
"Scythians".Since there are several opinions about Bastarnae, it should
be worth to know , which ancient sources mention the Bastarnae as being
Germanic people ? The last mention about them I remember to have been
with the apparition of the Goths and nothing after this. Which are the
reason to suppose they migrated back in the Germanic forests ? Are there
any testimonies?
