KHEIMEPIOC, which means "wintery", and supposedly
point to the inclement weather on the Northern shores
of the Pontus (for Greeks). There is also a Phoenician
theory: KAMAR ("dark") with allusions to "Cimmerian
darkness". They are known as GIMIRA from the country
GAMIRRA in Assyrian tablets of the 8th-7th c. BC.*****
