I'm beginning to see this image of a "Primordial Lake" as important in IE
cosmogony. Maybe it will explain better the enigmatic Pontos in Greek
mythology. Pontos is not "Thalassa", the Mediterranean, but a kind of closed
sea or lake ("atrygeton pelagos teken, oidmati thyion"). Norse Audhumla
licked Buri out of salty ice, as from her udders flowed the milky rivers
that fed Ymir. Analogously, Gaia gave birth to Ouranos and Pontos. I think
this may represent a pair of brothers, the Sky-Father and the Central Lake.
In Edda there is also the Ellivagr, the venomous rivers fllowing from
Hvergelmir

This PIE Primordial Lake is also source of all rivers, and linked to the
"grandson of waters" (Apam Napa:t, Neptu:nus, Nechtan)..

*kok^so is the same root that gave Latin coxa "thigh" ?

At face value, it appears to be "Lake Broadshoulder/Broadside" (vouru- <
*varu- 'broad, wide' + kas^a- 'shoulder' cf. Skt. kaks.a- < *kok^so-).
