I am waiting with bated breath for further suggestions on the models
succinctly presented by Richard.

Let me add a vegetation (and hence life-support systems) issue. The
last glacial maximum was 18,000 Carbon-14 years ago and the glacial
period ended 11,000 years before present. Is the period of 11,000
years long enough for people to settle or re-settle after the
glaciers melted? It should be noted (since I am a proponent of the
Out of Bharat hypothesis) that there was no ice in Bharat or South
East Asia, no ice at no point of time and certainly not 18000 carbon-
14 years ago. So say the glaciologists in their map of vegetation
cover in Asia.
