THE LOCATION OF THE ATLANTIS. ACCORDING TO DIODORUS SICULUS, AND
OTHER AUTHORS.
As all you will know, I take to several years defending the location
of Atlantis in the surroundings of the Straits of Gibraltar, between
Iberia and Libya, that is to say, between Spain and Morocco.
Like or I have demonstrated over and over again, this is the only
location of the Island or Peninsula of the Atlantis that describes
Plato with absolute claridez. The only possible location, the only
that it can be maintained seriously and scientific rigor.
Recently I have located the original text written in Latin of the
famous Latin writer Diodorus Siculus (Bibliothecae historiae libri).
Diodorus Siculus (in Castilian) speaks of the Atlantis and it exactly
locates it between the Straits of Gades or Straits of Gibraltar and
Libya (Morocco), the same location of Atlantis that offer Plato to us
through Timaios and Kritias, and the same one that I have been coming
defending (still in vain) for years.
The own words of Diodorus Siculus:
"... ATLANTI LOCA IUXTA OCEANUM, ET LYBIAM USQUE ET FRETUM GADITANUM
CONTIGERUNT ..."
Literal Translation:
"... Atlantis were located next to the Ocean, and Libya until the
Gaditano Straits was contiguous... "
Adapted Translation:
"... Atlantis were located next to the Ocean, and were contiguous
with Libya until the Gaditano Straits... "
Impossible clearer. This so precise affirmation of Diodorus Siculus,
is one more a test of than the only location of Atlantis that can be
maintained with rigor is the one of the surroundings of Gibraltar,
between Spain and Morocco.
Another test plus we found it in the Latin classic text
compilation "De Rerum Naturis" (book 13), made by Rabanus Maurus
between the 842 and the 846 A.D. In this text affirms:
"... CALPES MONS IN ULTIMIS FINIBUS OCEANI QUI DIRIMIT EUROPAM AB
AFRICA QUAM ATHLANTIS FINEM ESSE DICIT ..."
This same fragment we found in texts of Isidoro [ ISIDORI HISPALENSIS
EPISCOPI ETYMOLOGIARUM SIVE ORIGINUM LIBER XIV. DE TERRA ET PARTIBVS.
VIII. DE MONTIBVS CETERISQVE TERRAE VOCABVLIS. 17]:
"... CALPES MONS IN ULTIMIS FINIBUS OCEANI, QUI DIRIMIT EUROPAM AB
AFRICA, QUEM ATHLANTIS FINEM ESSE DICIT ..." [ De quo Lucanus. 1,555]
"... Monte Calpe is in the last bordering of the Ocean, those that
divide Europe of Africa, where finalizes Atlantis according to is
said... "
The Calpe mount are the name that received in the antiquity the Rock
of Gibraltar. For that reason it says that one was in the limits of
the Ocean (the Atlantic) that divide to Europe of Africa, that is to
say, the Straits of Gibraltar. In "LUCII AMPELII LIBER MEMORIALIS. DE
ORB TERRARVM" the main mounts of the world known the following way
are described:
"... ALPES INTER GALLIAM <ET ITALIAM>, PYRENAEUS INTER GALLIAM ET
SPANIAM, ATHLANS IN AFRICA, CALPE IN FRETO OCEANI ..."
"... The Alps between the Galia and Italy, the Pyrenees between the
Galia and Hispania, Atlas in Africa, Calpe in the Straits of the
Ocean... "
Are clear that Monte Calpe was in the Straits of Gibraltar and near
the Atlas.
When affirming that Monte Calpe was where the border of Atlantis, it
is being confirmed to us just like it affirmed Plato, Diodorus
Siculus and all the previous authors of the antiquity: that the
Island or Peninsula of Atlantis was located next to the Straits of
Gibraltar, between Europe and Africa or what is the same, between
Spain and Morocco. Let us remember that Plato affirms almost the same
when says that "an extremity of Atlantis was contiguous with Gades
and the Columns of Hercules" (Mount Calpe or Gibraltar)
