My impression is that the problem is still far from being solved. The
Proto-Baltic ending itself is reconstructed ambiguously: some
auctores insist on *-ó:ns while others on *-ó:s, and I'm not sure if
we can claim tautosyllabic *-ó:n- and *-ón- are not one and the same
diphthongoid in Proto-Baltic. If we can, then, AFAIK, the vowel
quantity is routinely explained as being analogical by the *á:-stems,
so the accent might be analogical as well.
