Another one that I've just
remembered:
English <cookie> (a loan from Dutch)
is related to <cake> but unrelated to <cook> (no kidding!).
Likewise, German <Kuchen> is unrelated to <kochen>.
I mean genetic relationship of course: the
words in question have different historical origin. I'm not responsible for
synchronic associations established in anyone's mind between <cook> and
<cookie>.
