Yes (because of these clusters schi-/sche- and sci-/sce-.
Especially
the latter group seems to be difficult for most of Romanian
native-
speakers to be pronounced s-tS-.

I forgot to say that there in romanan not always went "schi"
and "sche" but "skî" too. That shows somehow a much distance
to sht.
scînteia, scînci, scîrliontz, scîrba... etc.. sorry for
disturbing your way to argue about "sche" and "schi"..
