cities on the Dnister ("Armucastru" [GK a garbled
Maurocastrum?] and "Akliba" [GK where "Ak" is the
Turkic for "white"]. And she then states that the
first continuous Genoese information about the area at
the end of the 13th c. mentions "Malvocastrum' and
"Maurocastrum", i.e. the "black" city. But drawing
conclusions from this is a delicate matter indeed.******
