He did endow the church with a fair chunk of the Isle of Wight,
according to the AS Chronicle. 'One baptism for the remission of
sins', but I don't recall anything about baptism cancelling good
deeds. The inherent sanctitiy of kings in early Germanic society may
have a strong connection, but most of what I know about that topic
comes from the 'Golden Bough' and deductions from Aragorn in
the 'Lord of the Rings'.
