I've seen the word applied to the long-nosed (horned) adder,
_Vipera ammodytes_, which occurs in Albania. The plural, if my
Albanian is correct :) is <nëpërka>; the definite forms,
<nëpërka>, pl. <nëpërkat>. That's what I'd predict, anyway.

[Moeller] very interesting. If my memory do not ( once again)
make some bad games with me, I would say that the _Vipera
ammodytes_ is in Romania just in one region to find. And that
is not the Carpatian Mountains-area, but Dobrogea.. On its
ancient name, Moesia Inferior..
