Very good timing on his behalf (getting baptised just before he died) - so rather than burning for eternity in hell, he acts as an intermediary with God? I wonder what he's responsible for? Perhaps he's the saint of genocides - which probably means he's very busy.

I must remember to go and pray at his 'tomb' next time I'm in Rome.

Killing oponents(in fact or fiction), especially infidels, seems not to deter people from worshipping saints. You only need to see the iconography of Santiago Matamoros in Spanish churches - reminicent of Egyptian or Persian kings trampling their enemies.
