VA: Actually, Kalia is a Panjabi Brahmin surname. Neil is a spelling
adopted for their first name in lieu of the Hindu name 'Neel', by
Indian migrants in the West.
Therefore, it is possible that NK is indeed a person of Indian
origin, but born and brought up in the USA/Canada/UK etc. - in this
case, he would indeed be a native speaker of English.
