True, although:

The relationship of the Mithraic mystery cult to the figure in
Iranian myth, argued by Franz Cumont has been challenged in more
recent years. Although the name Mithras does appear in the
Zoroastrian Avesta, there is no evidence prior to the Roman cult of a
cult of Mithra in Iran. The first evidence of the cult is found in
Roman garrisons across the frontier. Furthermore, we don't know of
any instance in Iranian or Zoroastrian mythology where Mithras kills
a bull. Cumont's explanation for this, resting on interpretation of
icongoraphic evidence, is rather dubious, and has been weakened by
alternative explanations of the iconography put forth by Ulansey,
Speidel and others. Although a connection between the mystery cult
and the figure in the Avesta is still likely, the nature of the
connection has been called into question.
