Faliscan is an ancient Italic language rather closely related to
Latin (the subbranch of Italic that comprises them both is called
Latino-Faliscan). It was spoken in the area of Falerii in the Tiber
Valley (north of Rome, in and around the present location of Civita
Castellana). Faliscan is known from about a hundred brief
inscriptions dated from 650 to 100 BC, written in the local variant
of the Old Italic script:
