Yes, it's been known for some time that there were female
rulers, priestesses and warriors among the Sarmatians.
Among the Ossetes, who are descendants of the Sarmatians,
it was the custom that a girl never leave home without
a dagger on her person. It was expected that she should
protect her own honor, unlike the neighboring Muslim
people of the Caucasus who forbade or discouraged women
from travelling or going too far from the homestead
without male escort.
