The asterisk <*> means that the string that follows is reconstructed and not directly documented. Foe example, *wlkWos is the _reconstructed_ PIE word for 'wolf'. The colon <:> is used as a length mark (mostly with vowels), e.g. [a:] means 'long [a]'. We have worked out a rough transcription system that can be used in e-mail postings. For example, [tH] means 'aspirated [t]' (as opposed to [t] plus [h] as a sequence of sounds), and [kW] means '[k] combined with lip-rounding' as opposed to [kw] = [k] + [w].

I seen by Piotr and lingvistic crew here they use something like "*:#" in some words when they try to explain something  where * or : or # means something .What that really means ,they must know of it or maybe the lovely God:))...
Anyway, maybe I find it somewhere:))
