Could be a reflex of *s(h2?)wel- 'burn, shine', borrowed by Greek from an _IE_ dialect (like, say, <su:s> beside <hu:s> 'pig'). There are other sporadic cases of what appears to be Greek <s-> for PIE *s- or *sw-.

However, under "light", I found a North Caucasian root for "light,
ray" that was something like *sVlV- (might have been the source
of Greek selas "light, brightness"; that is likely a borrowing after
Greek's *s- > *h- sound shift).
