<drasil-> seems to be a derivative of the polysemic verb <draga> 'draw, drag, pull up, hoist, fasten' (and lots of other secondary meanings like 'turn, delay, prolong, earn ...'). I suppose it can be interpreted as "something that carries" Odin, be it a horse or a tree.

Again, this "steed" connection. Where is this coming from? A tree just doesn't look like a horse, I'm sorry. Maybe I don't smoke up enough but I just don't see the connection yet ;)
