It makes more sense if you think about the shamanistic image of
Ygg/Odhin hanging on the windy tree. Entry into Otherworld realms,
symbolic death, understanding the mysteries, etc. In Siberian
cosmologies, the shaman roams the worlds by travelling along the
central Tree, as well as by shapeshifting or riding on the backs of
animals. Both seem to have also been present in Norse tradition, as
the "windy tree" and eight-legged Sleipnir.
