This name used to be quite a popular one in its Isabel form among the generations we can call today "the ladies". Within young girls it's not very usual, and it's preferred in the Elisabet form.
 
About that, you may know, as you're Brazilian, that it's very usual within the Catolic cultures to name girls with "Maria + (de la) + st else", so here, with Isabel you have lots of Maria Isabel = Maribel rather than just Isabel. It is very very popular in Spain in this Maribel form and specially in Galiza in the form "Marisa" (which has been exported all over the Spanish state). I think you should take a look at this issue (okay, I know it's easy for me to say...) I don't know of any Maria Elisabet, probably because it is a more "European" form, you know what I mean.
