****GK: So the Iranic hermeneutic also seems
plausible. I think "place'" would fit better than
"cree'" since we're talking about the youngest
"brother" in the system.*****

****GK: I wonder whether the Greek "Callipidai"
("Beautifully horsed")could be its equivalent? Does
G.D. have any ideas about this? But even if it isn't
the "horse" component with explained prefix is strong
evidence. The important but politically secondary
ethnos which Herodotus reports as living next to the
Callipidae (immediate neighbours of Olbia these last),
viz., the Alizones could perhaps mean "Those of the
excellent bay horses", which is what the Sanskrit
lexicon gives for ALA-ZONA.==== So according to
Dumezil the 3rd and 4th names (possible historical
sequence; the PARAL(D)ATA did not arrive until ca. 650
BC) can be well explained by Avestan terms, but not
the 1rst and 2nd (these represent an older
population). In the SFL the origin of the groups is
presented as very ancient ("1000" years plus).Applied
to all "brothers" but fits n. 1 best.*****
