The taxonomical distinction of genus and species is quite modern.
However, related species were distinguished, sometimes with a common
'genus' name, e.g., English tiger and lion, of the genus cat.

Dogs and wolves have always been distinguished, tho' a common 'genus'
word is not necessarily found. Does the RV distinguish between dog and
wolf?
