All decent human beings feel the blow -- we are all New Yorkers today, if you excuse my putting it rhetorically. Terror would be our common concern even if NATO's "collective self-defence" article had not been invoked. Like you, I hope there will be no indiscriminating revenge, but also that the perpetrators of this heinous mass-murder and their accomplices will get their just deserts.

... And to think it came just as we'd been talking about Haraxvaiti -- nowadays the main stronghold of the Taliban, and possibly bin Laden's hideout.

As an American -- and more importantly as a human being -- I owe you all thanks for thinking of us in light of the infernal events that have taken place in New York and Washington. In response to this evil, good has come out. The world has responded with sympathy and outrage, even our "enemies". A great city is working together to save and heal in a way I have never seen, and I'm watching it all from Texas, far away.

I only hope we declare war not on Islam or Palestinians or Arabs as a whole, but on the evil individuals who perpetrated this act and those who assist them.
