Re:g- for *re:g^- in an Indo-Iranian language? Forget it, it can't be right. I suspect there may be a connection between <re:gesta:n> and Skt. rah- 'to desert, abandon', but without checking the details I can't say more.

I assume I am correct in translating it [Registan] (and Rajasthan) as 'king's place', 'kingly place'.
