Trmmeli/Lycian/Tyrrhenian

I know the Tyrrhenian topic has died down again, but there was
something more I wanted to get off my chest before it burns a hole in
my pocket and..um..other mixed metaphors.
I believe there are grounds to equate teh Trmmeli, the self-
designation of the Lycians with the pseudo-mythical Telchines. My
head turned to the Lycians again whenTorsten mentioned the in an
earlier post when discussing possible Tr-words in association with
Troy.
To summarize:
The Telchines were in myth a group that excelled in metal working and
sorcery. They supposedly foged Cronos' sickle and helped take care of
baby Poseidon. They are supposed to originate from Crete, but to have
come to Rhodes. At this point, they angered the gods, and were forced
to leave their new home and scattered across the world
After this, Zeus killed the ones who fled to Teumessus, and Apollo
killed the Lycian Telchines. Some still survived at Sicyon.
Although this is veiled in the language of myth, I think the
historical nature of this is pretty apparent. It is strengthened by
the fact that new temples were built to Apollo, Leto, and Artemis
atop old Lycian sanctuaries.
Other myths that (probably) refer to this: The slaughter of Niobe's
children by Artemis and Apollo and Leto's wrath against the Lycian
villagers that wouldn't let her drink from the stream.
