You may be right that monosyllabic [lYi] is a better representation of <lui> than [lwi]. <Louis> rhymes to <oui>, both [ui] IMO (yes, very short u). When French speaking people (Walloons) pronounce (Belgian) Dutch <wie>, they often say [ui] instead of [wi]. The difference is not very big, but clearly audible.
