Somewhere I read that these compound Greek names can sometimes be
interpreted in a negative sense. Instead of the usual "Glory of Hera",
Herakles might be calqued as "Glory over/despite Hera".
Making up a by-name for Perseus, 'Medousakles', 'Medusa-Glory', this
could only be interepreted as 'Glory over Medusa', '[obtaining] glory
from Medusa'.
You can also adopt the Robert Graves position, of Sons of Herakles
marrying or being adopted as sons by the local priestesses of Hera.
