Pliny list the island nations and tribes of Holland, Northern
Germany, and southwest Denmark.
First the islands of the Batavians and Cannenefati (Canneti, same as
the Belgae tribe in Kent), then the Zuiderzee Friesians (Friesland)
and Chaucorum, followed by the seaward islands from west to east
called Frisiavonum (Flylân, Skylge, and Amelân) Sturiorum
(Skiermuontseach), and Marsaciorum (Amrum?) scattered between
Helinium (Hallig) and Flevum (Pellworm) islands.
PLINI SECUNDI NATURALIS HISTORIAE
LIBRI IV
[Line 101]
Rendering
Meanwhile in mist [the] Rheno itself, centered on [it's] length, [is
the] noble island [of] Batavorum and Cannenefatium, also Frisiorum,
Chaucorum, Frisiavonum, Sturiorum, [and] Maraciorum, are scattered
between Helinium and Flevum.
These island and/ot island group names suggest additional tribal names
Sturi. Marsaci, Helini, and Flevi
Any thoughts
