Loha, copper, red: any IE cognates?

Sigh...

S.Kalyanaraman states:
>It appears that a compound term is used: URUDU -LLUHA which means
>that URUDU refers to unrefined copper (pyrite?) ore and LLUHA (which
>is refined copper or just heated, reddened copper?

Erh, beg pardon, mister/maam, but this is totally muddled. I
may not know anything about Munda, but you can't pull the wool over
my eyes when it comes to my beloved Sumerian.

First of all, please take the time to find the *correct* spelling
and definition of the terms you cite. There is no **lluha in
Sumerian... perhaps you're thinking of Welsh. I believe you are
refering to what is mentioned at this questionable site:

http://sarasvati.simplenet.com/html/urseals.htm

Here, we see /urudu-luhha/. Sumerian /urudu/ just means "copper".
*Any* type of copper. This much is certain and this can be found
in textbook at any local library. It is one of the most commonly
mentioned words in Sumerian vocabulary.

The word /luh/ (also found as /lah/) means "to wash"... hence
/urudu luhh-a/ "of washed copper" (If I recall the Sumerian genitive
is -a(k)). This is in fact the translation found on the site.
At any rate, since /luh/ means "wash", it should be painfully clear
at this point that it has absolutely nothing to do with the Sanskrit
"red" word and to persist with this fantasy means fighting against
reasoning in favour of hopeless ignorance.

Please be more careful in the future.
