The Kimmeri/Cimmeri have always been a fascinating
subject. Here we have Kimmeria, a term associated
with the southern Ukraine and Crimea before that of
Scythia. As with Scythians the Kimmerians are clearly
not a single ethnicity, rather a confederation of
numerous tribes.
One thing I have found interesting is the near absence
of burials that can be dated to the Late Southern
Ukrainian Bronze to Early Iron ages. Of the small
number excavated, investigators claim they are similar
to those associated with what the Scythic culture is
thought to have been.
Although I have literature on the material assemblages
associated with the LBA Srubnaya Culture which is
focused primarily east of the Dnieper, the Sabatinovka
(situated between the Dnieper and Dniester) and following
Bjelozerka (chronologically the closest to the Kimmeri)
cultures remain mysteries. Rex do you have any
information on the Sabatinovka and Bjelozerka complexes?
