There are also some Greek-based characters and the inventors' aim was clearly to devise a phonetic (one sound -- one letter) script for Albanian. The following story sheds some light on those efforts:

I just came across this.  Apparently Albanian has been written in something besides Latin, Greek or Arabic.  These letters look mostly a priori with some Latin influence; one is modelled after cursive script.  How did these arise and whatever happened to them?
