According to some maps I've seen, the late Ice Age range of Panthera leo spelaea extended all the way across subarctic Eurasia -- from the Atlantic and the British Isles to Beringia. Even Groiss assigns all the northern "lion or tiger" fossils to a single species, though he renames it as P. tigris spelaea.

Well, I'm not a paleontologist, but I think the relationship between American Lion and tiger is most plausible, because I think there's no fossil of lions in Northern Asia.
