With all due respect etc., Graves was a poet, not a linguist. Well, if the reading of Linear B a-ki-re-u is correct, there must have been multiple Achilles even well before the Trojan War. "Lipless", however, is a typical folk etymology. If only the name were "Akheilos" or "Akhellos" ...

Well. Robert Graves says Achilles means 'lipless', it referring to the skull of an oracular hero. He says there seem to have been multiple Achilles.
