I don't see such a stage myself ever having happened. Some
neighbouring languages appear to have had this, however, like
NEC (Nakh-Daghestinian) for instance. For Old IE, I personally
would reconstruct *wei for 1pp and active *-me/stative *-we for
verb endings.
