I really don't like this name because of its origin, while I don't
have any bad feelings for Danzig or Breslau.

They really were there first, Germanic tribes, but not necessarily
those who were the ancestors of Germans. The problem was that
archeology was used to make claims for land ownership, in a similar
matter you mentioned the idea of Jutland annexation by Germany.
As people understand now that this is not an argument, there is no
more need to prove anything that would suit anyone politically and
one can admit the truth (or usually rather the most likely hipothesis
:).
