[PG]Both your favourite dictionaries are somewhat dated.
If OED 2nd ed 1994 is already dated then I'd better stick with
Cybalist where I can keep up to scratch with the latest discoveries
in the field of etymology. :-)
[PG] Historical linguistics keeps making progress and a lot of
information is dispersed in various publications never seen by the
general reader.
Bad news for this general reader. Even OED cannot manage to work
that fast. But then some dictionaries used to take 100 years to
complete so that by the time they were published they were largely
out of date.
