I'm just back, and I don't have a lot of time to look for references.
There is a theory (by who?) that in Greek:

ih2 -> ia
ih3 -> io
ih1 -> i:

The evidence I've seen (despite a few exceptions) seems pretty
convincing. Similar claims for, I believe, Armenian and Tocharian
have also been made.
