Joao, according to Herodotus even Athena had spurous Egyptian roots,
in the Saite Goddess Neith. One must take this with a grain of
salt. During the Late Period the Athenians saw themselves as closely
related to Egypt grace a the mutual animosity with Persia. An Atheno-
Egyptian alliance was seen as an important matter of policy and the
ancient Greeks went trawling for every similarity they could.
