Come to think of it, this might also explain the Lith. masc. nom. pl.
of the present [and past] active participles, if those can be derived
from old neuter plurals (i.e. collectives), which have been bothering
me with their lack of ending: -(i)a~, -i~, -a~ (*-(i)o(:)nt, *-i(:)nt,
*-a:nt).
