Gaedel [Goedel] Glas is the eponymous ancestor of the Gaels. This character is a late invention, as the ethnic name Gaedel/Goedel was a late borrowing from Welsh Gwyddel [Old Welsh *Goidel] (which comes from a Celtic *Uedelos "wild" from PIE *weid- "see," having a secondary meaning of "seer," leading to the semantic shift towards "wild/possessed one").
