Lokys is from *tla:kijas 'shaggy, hairy' (OPrus. clokis with *tl- > *kl-, cf. ). Slavic *vIlko(d)lakU (with regional variants) may possibly derive from *wlko-tla:ko- 'wolf-haired'.

Lithuanian use for "bear" the name LOKYS", which is cognate of Latvian LA:CIS, and someone link it with Vliko-DLAKU "werewolf" in Slavic. *DLA:Kw- ?
