"Przypadek" means 'chance' or 'accidental event'. I'm not sure what translation was used by the English-speaking distributors of Kieslowki's film, but "A Matter of Chance" would accurately convey the overtones of the Polish title.

Piotr, a question to you
One of the best movies I've seen is Kieslowski's Przypadek. I saw it several years ago and I'm still thinking about it. Could you tell me what this word means? They don't translate foreign movie titles here, they ususally just make up new titles for them. This word has stuck in my memory and since there is a Polish linguist on this list, I thought I gotta ask...
