It's important to not confuse Roman with Greek Gods. The Roman Gods were
very deeply influenced by Greek mythology and absorbed many features of
Greek gods. But the real Roman Gods, with more "archaic" features were
different. In addition, the Etrusques was also influenced by Greek culture;
and "etrusquized" Greek Gods, carrying them to Roma.
So, for example, Herakles > Hercle > Hercules
Mars (Mavors) was totally different from Greek-Thracian Ares. Mars was very
complex with agrarian and warrior features.
