Could be. Something like *daniz < *dHon-i-s. There is of course English den < OE denn, and the Southern English toponymic dean 'valley'< OE denu/dene (f.) < *dHen-a:, and other such 'lowland' vocabulary. I think it's the best guess so far, though some parallel names would be welcome in order to justify the i-stem.

The WEBSTER explain OE Dene as "level lowlanders", from IE *DHEN- "lowland"
