Over one thousand corporate logos - I'm impressed!

It was interesting to learn from your and Piotr's messages that multilingualism has always been a normal condition. I didn't know this and have wondered how people were able to understand each other, as it seems there has always been a lot of foreign trade going on (I grew up in a small town that was a trading hot spot in the Viking age - dig deep enough and you can still find 1,000 year old silver coins with Arabic letters).

By the way, what were you doing in Papua New Guinea? You've mentioned it several times now...

Talking of our Coca Colonisation of the planet, there is the worrying
report that the average 8 year old can recognise over 1,000 cprporate
logo's but could not name 1,000 varieties of native plants found in
their neighbourhood, nor tell you anything of their growing
conditions.  It appears as linguistic diversity disappears so does
the ecological literacy contained in these languages.  Many highland
Papua New Guineans I knew used to consider anyone who only spoke 1
language as being mentally defective - - -
