However, Sabine, your humble Nabe will never be
the same if you remember that it has such noble
relatives as:
Sanskrit NABHI 'centre, nave, navel'
(and CAKRANABHI 'nave, hub');
Greek OMPHALOS -- a range of meanings from 'navel'
to 'the stone of the Delphic temple';
Latin UMBO 'boss (of a shield)' and UMBILICUS 'navel'.
In fact, I'll probably devote another etymological
essay to it.
