I think Mark is a Brit.

I'm flattered, but nope. Currently, I live in the furthest northeast corner
of Iowa (identify where Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin come together and you
identify where I live on a map, within a few miles or kilometers). The
Lansing Bridge across the Mississippi is the real landmark here, about 15
miles (a few less than 20 km) up the road.

And there is an 'accent' here that needs to be explained. It doublies just
about all vowels, and drags out diphthongs to the point they almost become
two vowels. "Matthew" is normally two syllables in English; here, his father
makes it four syllables.

No, Piotr, I'm not making this up, I hear my brother-in-law's intonations
regularly. Matt's my nephew, my sister's oldest boy.

Yeah, we moved here. Were are now rather intermarried here, to the point
where you yourself are at least your own third cousin by marriage.
